Frequently Asked Questions
Q:How old do I have to be to get a Library card? A:Students from age 5 through 17 need to bring a parent or legal guardian with them to assist in filling out and signing the registration card. If parents do not have a library card with us, they will need to present a photo ID and proof of current address. This could be a driver's license, checking account, or recent bill. Library cards are issued within a few minutes of application, are free, and are ready to use that day. Applicants do not need to live within our school district in order to get a library card at the Delta Public Library.
Q:How many books or videos/ DVD's can I check out on my card? A:New patrons (those who have had their cards less than three months) are limited to four items checkouts at any one time. After three months, limitations are placed only on video titles--seven titles per adult borrower (18 years and older) and 2 titles per student (age 5 through 17). DVD's titles – three titles per adult borrower (18 years and older) and 1 title per student (age 13 years through 17).
Q:Can I renew my materials by phone? A:Yes, materials can be renewed by phone except for videos which are non-renewable and materials that have a reserve or hold request placed on them. Materials may be renewed only once. You may also renew your items online by setting up a password at the library first.
Q:What if I lose my receipt and don't know when my materials are due
back to the Library? A:If you lose your library receipt, just call the library at (419) 822-3110, give your name, and ask when your materials are due back to the library. The staff can quickly access your borrowing record on the computer, confirm your return dates, and let you know if you owe any fines and/or renew your books if you wish. You may also check online by setting up a password at the library first.
Q:Can I use my DPL card at other libraries? A:Your DPL card can only be used here at Delta Public Library. You are welcome to become cardholders at any of the other five Fulton County libraries if you wish. However, you must apply at those libraries and abide by their rules and policies which may vary from Delta Public Library's rules and policies.
Q:Do I need to bring my library card with me to check out materials? A:Yes, you must have your own DPL card with you in order to check out materials. This is a library board policy and is for your own protection as well as for the library's. Books will be held for a short period of time in order for you to retrieve your card and still check out the items you want. Library cards may be kept on file here at the library, or taken with you and presented at time of loan.
Q:What should I do if my card is lost or stolen? A:If your card should be misplaced, lost, or stolen, please report it to the library immediately. Sometimes cards are inadvertently left here or are found and returned here. The cards are kept at the main circulation desk. If misplaced or lost, please report it to the main circulation desk, and they can be replaced in one week's time. We ask that you look for the card within that week's waiting period. Many cards are found and then there is no need to charge you for a new card. Your first library card is issued free; the second card costs $1.00; your third card $2.00 and so on. There is no waiting period for patrons who have never been barcoded, but have lost their library card. There is a charge, though, according to the costs stated above.
Q:How old do you need to be to become a page at the library? A:Student pages need to be 16 years of age, have a work permit issued from their high school, and be available to work 13 to 18 hours per week, including at least one night a week and some Saturday hours. We need volunteers from time to time for special projects such as Summer Reading programs. If you'd like to volunteer, please talk with one of the library assistants.
Q:Is there a charge to use the Ellison machine? Sizzix? Internet computers?
Public access computers? Printers? A:There is no charge to use the Ellison die cut machine. We ask that you sign in, read our policy, furnish your own paper materials, and clean up when you are finished. The Sizzix's mini die machine can be checked out for 3 days for home use for a fee of $15.00 payable at time of checkout. There is no charge to use our Internet or Public Access computers. We due however, only allow a one hour time limit when using the computers. Again, we ask that patrons sign up and follow our user policies. If you wish to print off the computers, you must purchase the paper at our desk. The charge is $.25 per sheet for black and white or $.50 per sheet for color printing. The charge helps to defray the cost of the ink cartridges.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Delta Public Library is to support and enhance the quality of life for all residents regardless of age, race, or socioeconomic status:
By providing free and equal access to information and services in a variety of material formats;
by promoting life-long learning, assisting with personal research and individual literacy materials for residents all age groups; and by meeting the educational, recreational and cultural information needs of the community and its citizens.
Thereby the role of the Public Library within the community of Delta will be to consistently supply and make readily available to all patrons: convenient hours, a variety of educational and recreational materials in both print and non-print formats, as well as other services that supply public demands. The Library will also serve as a point of access for any needed information and/or services by using various resources.
In fulfillment of this mission, the Library Board of Trustees is committed to sound financial management; to the support of intellectual freedom and the right to read; to the continued advancement and modernization of the library system, and to high quality personal service to all users.
Vision Statement
As Delta Public Library continues to look forward into the 21st century, it is realized that computers and digitization will play an even larger role in the services and holdings of the library. Serving a small, rural community, we also recognize that traditional library services and programming will still be in high demand. It is the goal of the Board of Trustees, director and staff to find a good balance in order to fulfill the needs of the community on both levels.
The success of the Delta Public Library throughout its 80 years of service is owed to the continuous support of the community, its wonderful patrons as well as the dedication and foresight of the many fine people who have served as Trustees, Directors and staff. It is the goal of this current board, staff and director to see that the role and mission of the Delta Public Library is carried well into the future to the best of their combined abilities.
History
The Delta Public Library has a long history of service to the community as it celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2005. The original 1911 collection of books was organized in 1925 under Ohio State law and thus became eligible for state funding. Delta Public Library has had a history rich in support and growth. Even when most of the collection was lost in the fire at Memorial Hall in 1949, support came from far and near to reestablish the collection.
From 1951 to 1975, the library was housed in the new Memorial Hall until it outgrew its allocated space. In 1976, citizens of Delta supported the purchase of and the move into the First Federal of Delta Bank building. Within 10 years the facility was expanded to provide a larger area for the children's collection and a new community room. To meet the needs for library services of a growing community in the 21st century, the library facility was again expanded in. The completed addition on the north side of building added 1070 square feet to the library. The project included a 20 foot glass tower entry way, 600 square feet of public access, two storage areas, new carpeting throughout the library, new colorful wall paint, specially designed shelving to accommodate materials in the children's area, new CD/Cassette storage and new laminate counter tops for videos and books on tape shelving. On October 1, 2005, the library celebrated the completion of the project with a Dedication and Open House.
Today, the library houses a collection of 50,000 items. Materials include books, periodicals, videos, DVD's, internet, audio visual equipment, large print materials, books-on-tape, cassettes, compact disks and cd-roms, all on various reading and interest levels--everything from best sellers to time-worn classics. The introduction of computers for public access for the automated circulation and catalog system and Internet usage has added an electronic dimension to the information services. Services now include patron access to the internet and computer classes for the public. Programming is provided for pre-schoolers, elementary students, teens, adult readers and senior citizens. Outreach services include Red Carpet Services for the home bound and pre-school storytimes at local daycare facilities as well as Free-to-Read sites in area businesses, industries and Youth Center.
Delta Public Library has over 11,000 registered patrons, primarily from the Pike-Delta-York school district. Neighboring Fulton County communities are also served, as well as those who may live outside the county or state, but work within the Delta area.

Friends 19th Annual Event Successful
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Annual Salad Luncheon and Chinese Auction held at Memorial Hall, from those who donated items for the auction, prepared one of the many delicious salads, or helped setup before and or helped clean up after the event, even those who just came and enjoyed the day.
